Best Self-Care Tips
1. Meditation
Most people are reluctant to try mediation because it sounds boring, but it doesn’t have to be.
You can meditate at home on the couch, in your bed, in your car, or anywhere that’s comfortable. My favorite time to meditate is right before going to bed. This helps me to fall asleep more easily.
Meditation is a great way to relax your body and relieve stress. It gives you a chance to slow down and really connect with yourself. This ultimately improves your mental health and helps you to feel more relaxed.
2. Affirmations
Affirmations are a great form of self-care as they are that extra boost of reassurance we sometimes need.
Saying affirmations after waking up are a great way to start your day, as it helps you feel more confident and motivated. They can help you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, which can improve your mental state for the day ahead.
Believing in yourself is the ultimate form of self-love and self-care.
3. Skincare/Bodycare
Doing skin care or body care is a great form of self-care because it’s a physical way that encourages self-love. Pampering yourself can help you to relax, relieve stress, and eliminate any other negative emotions.
So do the face mask and have a nice long shower! Those are my favorite ways to pamper myself and it makes me feel so much better afterward.
4. Declutter
Your space can have a direct effect on your emotions and well-being.
When my space is messy, I feel flustered, which ultimately leads to feeling stressed and overwhelmed.
Cleaning your space can make you feel more relaxed and encourage you to get things done. This is a great way to boost your productivity and help you stay motivated.
5. Reading
Reading seems like something boring and disinteresting, however, reading is scientifically proven to reduce stress and release tension. Click here for more information.
Reading has easily become one of my favorite hobbies, and it does wonders for my mental health. Whether it’s 10 minutes or an hour, this is guaranteed to improve your mental health.
6. Tea/Coffee/Wine
Tea, Wine, or Coffee? Or maybe all 3?
While tea is recommended because it’s calming for the body and allows you to relax, coffee is my favorite drink. But when I really need to relax, tea is the way to go.
If it’s been a long day and you really need that glass of wine, then go for it. Self-care is all about what feels good to you and doing things you like can significantly improve your mental health. It is important to listen to your body’s cues and relax when you need to!
7. Listen to Your Favorite Music
If you need a serotonin boost then this is it!
Listening to your favorite music is the best way to lift your mood. This helps take your mind off things that are bothering you.
However, the type of music you listen to is important. Listen to music that will have a positive impact on your mood and not songs that may trigger negative emotions.
8. Gratitude
When our mental health is at an all-time low it’s usually because we focus on negative emotions.
Giving thanks or making a list of things that you’re grateful for is an amazing way to remind yourself of the good things you have in your life.
This helps you in staying mindful and being present, which can really improve how you’re feeling.
9. Put Your Phone Away
Social media has its pros but is not without its cons. A lot of what we see on social media can have a negative effect on your mental health and make you feel overwhelmed.
Taking breaks from my phone and social media is an essential form of self-care, and it’s something I do religiously now.
That little break will bring you back in tune with yourself and reality. This is a great self-care tip that you should try to do as frequently as possible.
10. Getting Sunlight
When you struggle with your mental health and neglect taking care of yourself, all you feel like doing is staying in bed all day.
Taking a walk or getting some sunlight is such a simple yet effective form of self-care that will definitely boost your mood. Taking evening walks is something that has helped me relax and unwind, and it has improved my mental health a lot.
Do your physical health and mental health a favor and get some Vitamin D!
11. Relaxing
Self-care is all about showing love to yourself and listening to your body’s cues.
Resting and relaxing when you need to is a form of self-care we should all be practicing. You are only able to perform your best when you feel your best, and a key part of this is being well-rested.
Working all the time and getting burnt out was a specialty of mine until I started practicing these self-care tips for stress. I started performing much better after resting when I needed it. Therefore this is definitely something you should be adding to your daily routine to feel your best.
