TOP TIPS FOR SETTING GOALS
1. Clarify your intentions:
Start by understanding what you truly want to achieve. Having a clear idea of your goals is the first step in accomplishing anything. It could be a long-term vision or a short-term target. Make sure your desires are specific and meaningful to you.
2. Break down your tasks
Ensure your objectives are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. This framework helps in creating clear and attainable goals. For example, instead of saying “I want to get fit,” say “I want to lose 10 pounds in three months by exercising three times a week.” Large objectives can be overwhelming. Divide them into smaller, more manageable tasks. This makes it easier to stay focused and motivated, allowing you to track your progress more effectively.
3. Create an action plan
Document your goals and outline the steps you need to take to achieve them. Include resources, tools, and support systems that will help you along the way. It serves as a constant reminder and allows you to visualize your progress.
4. Monitor your progress
Set a timeline for each of your objectives and the smaller tasks within them. This helps in maintaining a sense of urgency and keeps you on track. After setting these timelines, regularly assess and review your progress, which will help you stay accountable. When monitoring, be prepared to make adjustments to suit your progress, this requires you to be flexible and adaptable.
5. Celebrate milestones
Acknowledge and reward yourself for achieving smaller objectives along the way. This can boost your motivation and keep you committed to your larger objectives. Remember, any progress no matter how small, is still progress!
6. Stack your habits
It has been shown that you are more likely to stick to your tasks if you have a specific plan for when, where and how you are about to complete these tasks. You can also be more effective by linking your goals to daily activities that you may already be performing which is known as habit stacking.
7. Align your environment
We are a product of our environment and conform to our circumstances. Our environment either makes things easier or harder for us. For example, if your goal is no screen time when you wake, having your phone next to you will make achieving that goal much harder. Make your environment more conducive to achieving your goals and it will make the process easier.
